Roast & Review: Let the Coffee Commence (1)

A latte is my go-to choice, as well as only being behind a flat white and black americano in popularity among the population of the UK, this is the drink that will be compared throughout the reviewing process. Having no customisations made towards a medium/regular size of all of the drinks, to have a fair comparison.
Each coffee shop factor will be ranked from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest rating.

The coffee from Caffe Nero has a nice robust flavour to it, the strength is pronounced but not too strong. The location of the one I went to in Glasgow was on Argyle Street, though there are more than a handful of locations within a 5-minute walk of Central Station. With chilled music playing and low lighting, it would be a great location to study or read a book. The service is prompt, and I got served my coffee within 5 minutes so overall impressed with this place.

Tastewise, the coffee wasn't as smooth as I had hoped for, as well as being relatively mild in strength, though it was adequate. I went to the Tinderbox on Waterloo Street just a few streets up from Argyle Street, again there are a number of these locations predominantly in the centre of the city. It was comfortable seating though was a bit rowdy whilst I was in with a few social groups, probably the reason the service wasn't very quick too.

8. MILK Cafe

My latte here tasted great, not too strong nor weak. Coming in a compostable cup the coffee, it was good quality as is everything this cafe does by the look of the food menu and online reviews. Located on a busy high street, it is situated just 10 minutes from the city centre by a train or car. The ambiance was extraordinary with it having a quirky warmth from the interior decoration and the friendly staff, with the added bonus of a swift service.

Papercup Coffee Company Coffee taste/strength 5 Coffee quality 5 Convenient location 5 Pleasant ambience 5 Quick service 5 Papercup Coffee Company was one coffee shop I genuinely could not find a fault in regarding these factors, or any for that matter. One of the top-tasting coffees I have ever tried, the strength of my coffee was spot on. The quality from this little cafe is outstanding, you can tell from the taste of this cup, that the beans used have been freshly ground and of high quality, allowing for a more in-depth nuttiness and natural sweetness to my latte while still being smooth. The ambience was idyllic, with welcoming staff and comfortable seating, having some booth seats with lots of cushions, easy to relax once I entered, with low soothing music playing. I was served almost immediately on arrival in the Papercup Coffee Company cafe, and so overall I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and plan on returnin...

Best Overall: Expectations vs. Reality (Coffee Shops Glasgow)

For those who have grown up in Glasgow they may have experienced the vast majority of what the city has to offer, when it comes to to their 'morning coffee fix', with coffee shops popping up anywhere and everywhere in and around the city. For locals getting their daily caffeine fix it is an easy option for them, with no need for a thought process first thing early on a typically rainy day in the city. This blog will not only give those visiting the city an insight into the cafe culture here in Glasgow but may also persuade native coffee lovers to try out other rival establishments. Glasgow's Boom In Coffee Shops  The rise in coffee shops in Glasgow in the past decade has created a thriving coffee scene in and around the city, incomparable to what it was like just a few decades ago. This has allowed for all types of variations of coffee shops to establish themselves in the city, ranging from specialty cafes, coffeehouses, and themed cafes, as well as grab-and-go cafes such a...

Greggs Coffee taste/strength 4 Coffee quality 4 Convenient location 5 Pleasant ambience 2 Quick service 3 One of my regulars, more a bakery than a coffee shop, taste and strength are both up to standard, a robust taste, which I enjoy. They use a blend of fairtrade Arabica and Robusta beans, being of fine quality. The location gets top marks, there being so many stores in Glasgow, having the most Greggs stores than any other city in the UK, ranging from drive-thrus, sit-in and takeaway-only stores. Since not all stores have sit-in areas, the ones that do not have much ambience, though being a bakery that might not be a priority for them. Stores tend to be hectic at certain times leading to a longer than average wait. 6.
