7. Greggs

One of my regulars, more a bakery than a coffee shop, taste and strength are both up to standard, a robust taste, which I enjoy. They use a blend of fairtrade Arabica and Robusta beans, being of fine quality. The location gets top marks, there being so many stores in Glasgow, having the most Greggs stores than any other city in the UK, ranging from drive-thrus, sit-in and takeaway-only stores. Since not all stores have sit-in areas, the ones that do not have much ambience, though being a bakery that might not be a priority for them. Stores tend to be hectic at certain times leading to a longer than average wait.

6. Kaf Coffee

This little cafe in the West End of the city, not far from the University of Glasgow has delicious coffee, the strength was spot on for my preference, being more on the stronger side with two espresso shots per latte. The quality of the coffee is undeniably good, using Colombian coffee, known to be one of the best in the world and no doubt why it tasted so good. The ambience was pleasant, having a cosy feel to it with it being so small. The staff was able to serve me as soon as I entered, due to me not going at peak hours.
5. Riverhill Coffee

Coffee taste/strength 3
Coffee quality 4
Convenient location 4
Pleasant ambience 3

The latte from here was milder in taste and flavour than what I hoped for, unfortunately. The coffee quality seemed to be good though maybe I just needed an extra espresso shot to satisfy my caffeine cravings. Being situated just a few minutes walk from Central Station it is in a handy location to get your coffee before starting work or university. The ambience was slacking just a little for me compared to others I have visited, it was crowded due to the size of the cafe and its location. The same reason goes for quickness of service, not the fastest place to get served if you're in a hurry.

Roast & Review: Let the Coffee Commence (1)

A latte is my go-to choice, as well as only being behind a flat white and black americano in popularity among the population of the UK, this is the drink that will be compared throughout the reviewing process. Having no customisations made towards a medium/regular size of all of the drinks, to have a fair comparison. Each coffee shop factor will be ranked from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest rating. 10. Caffe Nero Coffee taste/strength 4 Coffee quality 4 Convenient location 4 Pleasant ambience 5 Quick service 4 The coffee from Caffe Nero has a nice robust flavour to it, the strength is pronounced but not too strong. The location of the one I went to in Glasgow was on Argyle Street, though there are more than a handful of locations within a 5-minute walk of Central Station. With chilled music playing and low lighting, it would be a great location to study or read a book. The service is prompt, and I got served my coffee withi...

Laboratorio Espresso Coffee taste/strength 5 Coffee quality 5 Convenient location 4 Pleasant ambience 3 Quick service 5 This modern Italian-style little cafe in the center of the city is a must-try, the latte being made to perfection and having a smooth full-bodied taste again having a double espresso shot in it. Coffee quality from here would make the Italians proud - having exceptional quality, a slight sweetness and some nuttiness to it. Situated in the middle of Buchanan Bus Station, Queen Street and Central Station, there is no excuse not to stop by for a quick caffeine fix. The ambience could have been more relaxed, although the coffee and quick service made up for this. 3. Starbucks Coffee taste/strength 3 Coffee quality 3 Convenient location 4 Pleasant ambience 4 Quick service 3 With its consistently rich flavour profile and its harsh strong coffee quality Starbucks house blend people either swear by it - or ...
